Writing & Directing

David’s professional writing and directing career began with “Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings” a futuristic musical based on Milton’s Paradise Lost, in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning conductor-composer Eric Whitacre, with performances in Miami, Berlin, Chicago and the Los Angeles Disney Hall. One of its songs was performed at the Commonwealth Games by a virtual choir of 300 children for an estimated televised audience of nearly a billion viewers. His 11 music videos for Bethel Music’s Come Alive album won a Dove Award. Most recently, he has co-written and co-directed Bethel Music’s first feature film, “Bright Ones”, set to premiere in theaters nationwide. This summer he traveled to Iraq to shoot a musical documentary (Heart and Hands: Iraq) in the refugee camps just outside of Mosul in the midst of national elections.

To write and direct is to see things on the blank page and stage that no one has ever seen before.
